Performance Measurement & Improvement
The current situation
Measuring performance against clear, quantifiable metrics is critical to improving healthcare quality and maximizing resource use. Performance measures enable government organizations and policymakers to track outcomes over time, identify areas for improvement, and determine new priorities.
A well-designed measure can stimulate healthcare delivery changes that improve quality and value, but a poorly designed measure may have little effect on quality and/or waste resources.
To design the most effective performance measures, policymakers need reliable, quantitative information regarding the impact of different interventions and treatment targets on population morbidity/mortality, utilization, and costs.
Due to complexity and expense, it is typically not feasible to obtain this information through clinical trials or other empirical methods.
The Archimedes advantage
The Archimedes Model is a large-scale, validated simulation model of human physiology, diseases, behaviors, interventions, and healthcare systems.
It is ideally suited to analyze performance measures because all relevant biomarkers, processes, and treatment targets are incorporated into a single, integrated model that uses a consistent methodology.
Clients also benefit from experience gained from our collaboration with the U.S. National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) to co-develop a quality measurement tool to assess how effectively providers engage in prevention and goal-setting for high-risk patients.
How you can use the Archimedes Model
ARCHeS. ARCHeS is a web-based tool that gives users the power to set up and implement performance measurement simulations using various assumptions and scenarios—far faster and at lower cost than would otherwise be possible.
With ARCHeS, researchers can run unlimited treatment and outcomes simulations for the following conditions: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, diabetes and its complications, dyslipidemia, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, obesity, smoking, and stroke.
Archimedes IndiGO. IndiGO is a population health management tool that creates individual intervention and behavioral recommendations for patients based on their unique risk profiles.
Traditional quality measurements focus on care processes rather than actual disease outcomes. With IndiGO, providers can implement quality efforts at the clinical level by putting in place prevention plans that reduce the risk of future adverse outcomes.
Modeling & Consulting Services. Archimedes provides comprehensive support to help you run custom simulations and build new disease models. For questions that cannot be addressed with ARCHeS or IndiGO, our team of scientists and physicians will work with you to incorporate additional conditions and interventions or extend the Model to a deeper level of physiologic detail.
