Archimedes Inc. Adds Top Level Talent to Executive Team

Marc-david Cohen Brings More Than Twenty Years of Experience in Analytics and Operations Research to the Company

San Francisco, CA - July 28, 2009 — Archimedes, Inc., a Healthcare Modeling company, today announced the addition of Marc-david Cohen, Ph.D. to its executive leadership team. Dr. Cohen joins Archimedes as its new Chief Science Officer and is responsible for the scope and accuracy of the Archimedes Model, the company's core technology, as well as oversight of the company's consulting offering.

"We are very pleased to welcome Marc to our team with his extensive experience in mathematical modeling and management" said John F. Beasley, Chief Executive Officer of Archimedes, Inc. "Healthcare currently faces many challenging decisions and the Archimedes Model offers organizations the capabilities to better understand how their decisions will impact these real world scenarios. Marc's leadership will continue to expand the Archimedes Model as the superior model for healthcare decision makers."

Dr. Cohen brings more than 20 years experience in the field of operations research and mathematical modeling to the Company. He is an expert in management science and applications of optimization. Prior to joining Archimedes, he was at the Fair Isaac Corporation where he was responsible for core analytic capabilities in new Fair Isaac offerings and new directions in risk prediction. Prior to that, he served in various positions at SAS Institute, a privately held software company, where he initiated several new products, including the SAS/OR product and a marketing optimization product. Dr. Cohen holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Brandeis University and a Ph.D. in Operations Research and Systems Analysis from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Mathematical Modeling and Algorithms and International Institute of Innovation, Industrial Engineering and Entrepreneurship (I4E2).

"I am thrilled to join Archimedes at such an exciting time for the company," said Dr. Cohen, Chief Science Officer, Archimedes, Inc. "We are very optimistic about the future prospects for the Model and I am looking forward to contributing to the continued success of Archimedes." The Archimedes Model combines biological, medical, healthcare system, and economic data with advanced mathematics and computing methods to create a simulation model that can analyze healthcare questions with an unmatched degree of realism and accuracy. The core of the Model is hundreds of equations that represent human physiology and the effects of diseases. Attached to these are hundreds more equations and algorithms that realistically simulate the healthcare system including processes such as tests, treatments, admissions, and physician behaviors. Together with population data, the equations are integrated into a single, large-scale simulation model that accurately represents what happens to real people in real healthcare systems. The Model's accuracy has been validated by successfully simulating more than 50 separate clinical trials. It is the only full-scale simulation model of clinical medicine and the only model that has been validated so rigorously.

About Archimedes:

Archimedes Inc. is an independent Healthcare Modeling organization. Its proprietary technology - the Archimedes Model - is a mathematical model of human physiology, diseases, interventions and healthcare systems. The Archimedes Model is designed to help people understand the implications of their decisions and can be applied to a range of real world scenarios.

The Archimedes Model is repeatedly tested and validated and can be relied upon to answer complex, real world questions for health plans, pharmaceutical companies, researchers, and other organizations. Archimedes, a Kaiser Permanente Innovation, is based in San Francisco, California. For more information on the company, visit our website at www.archimedesmodel.com.
